Valve actuator stock in excess of one million dollars drastically reduces lead times
BPS has a partnership with UK valve actuator manufacturer and control systems specialist Paladon Systems to supply all quarter-turn and linear valve actuators for the US market. BPS Supply Group President, Dan Byrum, “One of BPS’ key strengths is making sure that we stock the products that our customers typically require. After stocking pipe, valves and fittings for many years, we realized that stocking a comprehensive range of valve actuators would complement these products lines and increase the total value we bring to our customers’ operations. In the last five years we have also noticed a decline in domestic valve actuator manufacturing and this has resulting in increased lead times for customers. By investing in a large stock of valve actuators, we can provide significantly reduced lead times when compared to other valve actuator suppliers. Paladon Systems actuators are also fully modular, so that allows us to stock numerous sizes of cylinders, spring-cartridges and scotch-yoke housings to meet the vast majority of valve torque characteristics we typically see, and offer optimal actuator sizes to reduce the cost and size to our customers.”

Although we have seen success for US projects that require valve automation technology that is simply not available from current US manufacturers or outside of Paladon Systems, these projects form a very small part of the total valve automation business available and future growth is therefore limited. To be successful with our more conventional product lines, it has always been clear that we would have to partner with a progressive US company who had the technical and commercial experience to gain market share and, just as importantly, be willing to invest in a very significant amount of stock to overcome the shipping issues.
